Eight members of the Poley Mountain Racing Club successfully completed a combined Alpine Canada Level I/II Officials Course held on the weekend of December 16 & 17, 2006.
The course was conducted by Technical Delegate Nicole Smith and provided a detailed introduction to the methodology of alpine ski racing, the types of races, rules, and points systems, as well as preparing officials for the managerial positions of Chief of Gates Judges, Chief of Course, Chief of Race, Start Referee, Finish Referee and Referee. The objective of the course is to develop officials capable of functioning at a carded level race and to provide a base of experience and knowledge to course participants to allow them to assume greater responsibilities at higher level races.
Colette d'Entremont, Jennifer Jobe, Peter Jobe, Charles LeBlanc, Joel Lee, Jamie LeMesurier, Sue Moir and Eric Overing all successfully passed the grueling one-hour exam and have been awarded their ACA Level I and II Officials' certification. Congratulations!
The additional knowledge gained as a result of this course will continue to strengthen our Club and will certainly help us when hosting our scheduled 2007 races.
PS: For individuals new to ski racing - especially parents of our K1 and Husky SnowStars racers - we will be offering a Level I Officials Course at Poley Mountain on January 17, 2007. This course takes about 3 hours and there is no exam. If you are interested, please e-mail us at pmrc@rogers.com. You can also review the Level I Course Manual, which can be found here under Forms & Other Documents.
